"I am a charter member of Advisors On Target. Actually my good friend and fellow painting contractor John Peek and I came up with the idea several years ago. We had both been working with Peterson & Co. the Accounting firm that originally launched the On Target Program, before Advisors On Target came into being as a separate entity. We approached them to see if they had an interest in developing what they were doing individually for us into a broader Executive Networking type of format. The idea made sense to them so we utilized our contacts within network of residential painting contractors to recruit our first two groups.
It has worked amazingly well for me and my company. We were paying more to Peterson for the services they were providing to us which I am now receiving from On Target plus many, many more benefits. The on going accountability to keep up with our Business Plan and stay focused on the Financial aspect is immeasurable. Then you add the accountability of monthly conference calls, semi-annual conference and the new and deepening friendships with other men who are down in the trenches just like I am is (as they say) priceless.
Just recently several of our members from the West Coast arranged a "Shop Hop". We met together for the purpose of visiting each others office/shop to see how others are running their businesses on a daily basis. Good ideas were gleaned no doubt, but the best result was getting to know more personally our fellow contractors. Now we feel even more freedom to pick up the phone and call a fellow OT member to ask a question and get help on various issues.
It is very gratifying to see painting contractors rally together to help one another. On Target has been THE key to our on going success at Peek Brothers Painting Contractors. With professional coaching and encouragement, I have not just learned new things but have implemented them as well so that we have grown in profitability. I enjoy and am encouraged on a monthly basis by our 1 ½ hour phone gatherings…I get to talk with other like-minded contractors in my group about what they are doing…what works and what doesn’t work for them, so that I am not reinventing the wheel.
